Hotels: Make A Las Vegas Hotel Reservation
Ill tell you from experience–dont just arrive in Las Vegas and expect to get a good deal on a hotel room. You may be able to, depending on the time of week or year, but conventions are going on all the time in Las Vegas and these greatly affect availability and room rates. It is always good to have a reservation to ensure you dont end up in some flophouse at an outrageous rate. You may also be surprised at how you are treated by the hotel staff when you dont have a reservation.
I once drove into Las Vegas on a Friday night and there was a convention in town. I had no room reservation. I drove up the Strip and stopped at hotel after hotel, motel after motel, and there wasnt a single room available. The ones that did have rooms available wanted over $200 for them. I ended up driving back to Jean, Nevada (30 or 40 miles away) and got a room there. It is hard to believe, but Vegas often gets booked up, and the hotels that still have rooms available will want a premium for them.
There is no reason to go through that kind of hassle. Most room brokers and hotels have toll free numbers and friendly customer service people who will answer your questions and make your reservation. Online, you can read reviews of specific hotels, look at color pictures of the rooms and other facilities, and make secure online reservations. You can also book shows, read reviews of restaurants, and get information about ground transportation.
The Best Way to Go
I personally think that making hotel room reservations online is the best way to go. The top travel websites get great room rates for all of the top hotels and most of the smaller ones. Once you have made your reservation on a secure online page, you will instantly receive a confirmation that you can print out and keep. You will need a credit card to make reservations online and by phone, and you must present that credit card upon check-in at the hotel.
